About
The Free AI Index is an independent directory that helps people find AI tools they can use without paying. We list 122 tools across 16 categories, from video creation and article writing to file conversion, coding and research.
Why this site exists
New AI tools appear every week, and it is hard to tell which ones are actually free and what each one is good at. Every tool on this site has its own page that explains, in plain English, what it is used for, who it suits, how to get started and where the free plan stops.
How tools are selected
- The tool must offer real value without payment: a fully free service, a usable free plan or an open-source download.
- It must be available on the web or as a widely used app.
- We describe limits honestly, including credit caps, watermarks and features that require payment.
- No company pays to be listed, and listings are not ranked by payment.
How we keep it current
Free plans change often. We review listings regularly and mark the date of the last review on each page. If you notice that a tool has changed its free plan, please let us know.
How the site is funded
The site is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertising never affects which tools we list or what we write about them. Links to tools are ordinary links; we do not earn commissions from them.
Editorial note
Descriptions are written by our team to help readers choose a tool. AI tools can produce mistakes, so we encourage readers to check important information and to review each tool's own terms and privacy policy.
