Pick the right free image generator for logos, posters, illustrations or product photos, and write prompts that get better results.

AI image generators turn a written description into a picture in seconds. Each free tool has a different strength, and good results depend more on how you describe the image than on which tool you use. This guide covers both.

Which free tool to use

Quick everyday images: Microsoft Designer / Bing Image Creator is free and also lays out posters and social posts. Google Gemini and Meta AI can create and edit images inside a chat.

Text inside images: Ideogram is the most reliable at spelling words correctly, which makes it ideal for logos, posters and thumbnails.

Illustration and game art: Leonardo.ai offers many models and style presets with daily free tokens. SeaArt and Tensor.Art provide thousands of community styles.

Icons and logos you can resize: Recraft exports vector SVG files that stay sharp at any size.

Commercial projects: Adobe Firefly is designed to be safer for commercial use.

Full control on your own computer: ComfyUI runs open models like Stable Diffusion and Flux locally, with no credits or limits, if you have a capable graphics card.

How to write a good prompt

Describe five things: the subject, the setting, the style, the lighting and the composition. Compare "a cat" with "a ginger cat sleeping on a windowsill in a small Tripoli apartment, soft morning light, watercolor illustration, wide shot". The second prompt gives the model far less to guess.

  • Subject: who or what, with details such as age, color or material.
  • Setting: where it is and what surrounds it.
  • Style: photograph, 3D render, flat vector, oil painting, anime.
  • Lighting: golden hour, studio lighting, neon, overcast.
  • Composition: close-up, wide shot, top-down, centered.

For text in images, put the exact words in quotation marks and keep them short.

Fix and improve results

Remove unwanted objects with Cleanup.pictures, remove the background with remove.bg, and enlarge a small image with Upscayl or Krea. To place the image in a finished design, open it in Canva or Adobe Express.

Rules to respect

Do not create images of real people in misleading situations, avoid copying protected characters and logos, and check each tool's license before using images commercially. Some free plans make your images public, so do not generate anything private on them.

Tool names link to our page for each tool, where you can open the official site. Free plans change often; check the current limits before relying on a tool.
